Kore - pensar a Paisagem

Foi recentemente, e finalmente, lançada aquela que pode ser considerada a primeira publicação portuguesa verdadeiramente desdicada à discussão sistemática sobre a Paisagem.

A Kore está ainda em fase de teste, com a concretização de um número zero, dedicado ao Mar. A ideia é desenvolver um tema dominante em cada número, e chamar para o debate especialistas de áreas diferentes, mas que afinal se complementam num tema tão vasto como o próprio entendimento desta matéria.

Paisagem é um termo que, além de extremamente complexo, está longe de ser consensual. A primeira página da Kore avança no entanto com uma possível definição com a qual me identifico, pessoal e profissionalmente.

A definição propõe uma ambivalência altamente dinâmica, que decorre do entendimento da Paisagem como o conjunto dos sinais que as comunidades cunham no território que habitam. Por um lado o conceito como a sistematização dos processos que concorrem para esses sinais formais e formalizados e, por outro, como os sistemas de códigos em que esses sinais estão inscritos, individual e colectivamente. E a complexidade adensa-se ao consciencializarmos que o conceito vive numa ponte constante entre as duas valências.

Se por um lado a primeira valência permite o desenvolvimento de um conhecimento técnico e científico, consciente, e o aprofundamento daquilo que se pode considerar como as ciências da Paisagem, por outro, a subjectividade em que cai a segunda valência obriga a um entendimento conceptual, tão vasto e pouco conciso quanto as mentes pensantes que habitam o Mundo. Este é também o fascínio da Paisagem.

Todos os artigos da Kore estão publicados em Português, na língua original da pessoa que o escreveu e em Inglês, o que permite um franco alargamento do debate. Por agora resta-nos aguardar pelo próximo número, que deverá sair no Outono.

Kore - thinking the landscape

It was quite recently, and finally, that that which may be considered to be the first Portuguese Landscape discussion publication has been released.

Kore is still in a testing phase, as seen in the release of issue zero, which is dedicated to the Sea. The intention is to explore a dominant theme in each issue and debate it with specialists from a variety of fields of work that complement each other on a subject as vast as the understanding of this matter.

Landscape is a concept that, apart from extremely complex, is also far from being consensual. Kore’s first pages propose a definition which I relate to, both personally and professionally.

This definition suggests a very dynamic ambivalence that is born from the understanding of Landscape as a group of the marks that communities leave on the territories they inhabit. On the one hand, the concept as a systematization of the processes that concur in what concerns those formal and formalized processes; and, on the other, as the systems of codes in which those signs are found, both in an individual and collective manner. This complexity thickens as we become aware of the fact that the concept positions itself on a constant bridge between both variables.

If, on the one hand, the first variable makes way for the development of a technical and scientific knowledge, and the deepening of that which may be considered the sciences of Landscape; on the other, the subjectivity in which the second variable finds itself implies a conceptual understanding as vast and imprecise as the thinking minds that inhabit the World. Hence the fascination that revolves around the concept of Landscape.

All of Kore’s articles are published in Portuguese, in the language of their author and in English, which permits an enlargement of the possibilities the debate may reveal to exist. For now, all we can do is wait for the release of the next issue of Kore, which is scheduled to reach us this Fall.
